Short answer: You can get a real US (+1) phone number in Bangladesh without ID documents, a US SIM, a US address or a Social Security number. With TINE you sign up with your email and your Bangladeshi mobile number, pick a US area code and pay by card. It costs $5 a month or $49.99 a year and runs in your browser. It calls and texts US and Canadian numbers, not Bangladeshi ones.

Who Gets a US Number in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of the world's biggest sources of online freelancers. In 2017, research by the Oxford Internet Institute found it supplied 16% of the world's online workers, second only to India. Most of that work is for clients abroad, and many of them are in the US.

  • Upwork and Fiverr freelancers. A US number on your website, email signature and invoices lets US clients call and text you like any local contact, without international rates or dialling +880.
  • Virtual assistants and remote staff. You call vendors and customers for a US client, or take calls on their behalf.
  • Agencies and small IT firms. One US number can be shared by your team, so a client always reaches someone.
  • Family in the US. Relatives in New York, Detroit or elsewhere can call a US number from their normal plan.
  • US websites and apps that ask for a US phone number. Most accept virtual numbers. Some, often banks, don't, so test anything important first.

Why Most Second-Number Apps Won't Work for You

Most popular second-number apps don't let you sign up from Bangladesh:

AppCan you sign up from Bangladesh? Why
Google VoiceNoPersonal Google Voice is only available in the US
TextNowNoIt's only available in North America, and it doesn't work through a VPN
HushedNoBangladesh is on Hushed's list of countries where the app isn't available
TalkatoneNoIt's only in 16 countries' app stores, and Bangladesh isn't one of them
BurnerNoYou need a US, Canadian or Australian main number to sign up
Numero eSIMCheck firstSells US numbers from €4.99 a month in its app. Check that it's available in Bangladesh before you pay
TINEYesSign up with your email and Bangladeshi number, and use it in any browser

Checked October 2026. These rules change, so check each provider's page before you pay. More detail: does Google Voice work outside the US?, TextNow not available in your country? and Hushed alternatives

What You Need, and What It Can't Do

You don't need ID documents, a US address, a US bank account or a Social Security number. You need:

  • An internet connection: broadband, Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  • A card that can pay online in US dollars (see the payment section below).
  • A web browser on your laptop or phone.

Before you buy, know these limits:

  1. It only calls and texts US and Canadian numbers. You can't call or text Bangladeshi (+880) numbers with it, so keep your local SIM for calls at home.
  2. Some services refuse all virtual numbers. WhatsApp is one: it wouldn't register a TINE number in our test. Upwork says it can't verify VoIP numbers, so verify Upwork with your Bangladeshi number and give clients your US number. If a sign-up code matters, test that service first.
  3. Calls ring while TINE is open in a browser tab. Texts wait in your inbox until you open it. iPhone and Android apps are coming.
  4. It can't call emergency services. Use your mobile's own dialler for 999.

Is internet calling allowed in Bangladesh?

Yes. People in Bangladesh make calls over the internet every day with apps like WhatsApp, Messenger and Google Meet, and TINE works the same way, in your browser. We tested TINE calls from Bangladesh in October 2026, and they worked. The "illegal VoIP" you may read about in Bangladeshi news is something else: SIM boxes used to route international calls around the licensed gateways.

Keep a backup connection. During the July 2024 internet shutdown, freelancers lost contact with clients for days. Having both broadband and mobile data means a single outage doesn't cut you off, and you can open TINE in your phone's browser if your home connection drops.

Paying from Bangladesh

Plans are billed in US dollars by card through Stripe's secure checkout. For most people in Bangladesh, this is the step to sort out before you start.

  • You need a card that can pay in dollars. Ordinary taka debit cards usually can't pay overseas websites. A dual-currency (international) credit or debit card can. Banks typically ask you to endorse your passport for the dollar part of the card, and you may need to switch on online (e-commerce) payments, for example by calling your bank's helpline.
  • The $300 limit is per payment. Bangladesh Bank allows online card payments abroad of up to $300 in a single transaction, within your annual dollar entitlement. Every TINE plan is well under that, including the $49.99 annual plan.
  • Freelancers have a dedicated route. Since July 2026, IT freelancers can keep up to half of their earnings in their ERQ account and use it to pay for international software subscriptions, cloud services and other foreign expenses, and banks can issue dual-currency Freelancer Cards. Ask your bank which card is linked to your ERQ account.
  • Mobile wallets. We couldn't confirm that bKash or Nagad can pay overseas websites, so use a card.

Tip: the annual plan is one payment a year instead of twelve, so there's only one dollar payment to approve, and it works out to about $4.17 a month.

Working US Hours from Dhaka

Bangladesh is on Bangladesh Standard Time (UTC+6) all year, with no daylight saving, so most US-facing work happens in the evening and at night:

US city9 a.m. there is this in Dhaka5 p.m. there is this in Dhaka
New York (Eastern)7 p.m. (summer) / 8 p.m. (winter)3 a.m. / 4 a.m.
Chicago (Central)8 p.m. / 9 p.m.4 a.m. / 5 a.m.
Los Angeles (Pacific)10 p.m. / 11 p.m.6 a.m. / 7 a.m.

Summer is mid-March to early November, when US clocks are on daylight saving time. US clocks go back on 1 November 2026, so from then on, US working hours start an hour later in Dhaka.

  • Pick a daily overlap of 2 to 4 hours at the start of the US day, and put it on your profile in US time, for example "Available 9 a.m.–1 p.m. ET".
  • Open TINE when your overlap starts and keep the tab open, so client calls ring through.
  • Answer texts first thing in your morning. Messages from the US afternoon wait in your inbox overnight.

How to Get a US Number in Bangladesh with TINE

  1. Go to tinetech.org and create an account with your email. If you're in Bangladesh, the country code fills in as +880 automatically. Enter your mobile number, for example 01712 345678. A leading 0 is fine.
  2. Choose the United States and search by area code. If your clients are in one city, use theirs. Otherwise, New York is a good choice: about 110,000 Bangladeshi Americans live in the New York area, so 212, 646 and 718 (Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx) are familiar to many US contacts. Detroit (313) and Washington, DC (202) also have large communities. If an area code has nothing available, try a nearby one.
  3. Pick a plan. It's $5 a month, $13.49 for 3 months, $25.99 for 6 months or $49.99 a year.
  4. Pay by card through Stripe's secure checkout.
  5. Start calling and texting straight away in your browser.

What It Costs

A US number costs $5 a month, $13.49 for 3 months, $25.99 for 6 months or $49.99 a year (about $4.17 a month). Each plan comes with some calling and texting credit: $0.50 on the monthly plan, up to $8 on the annual plan. After that you pay as you go, and you can top up from $5:

UsagePrice
Outgoing calls$0.035 per minute
Incoming calls$0.03 per minute
Texts (SMS), sent or received$0.03 per 160-character segment
Picture messages (MMS)$0.04 each

For example, a freelancer who has four 15-minute client calls a month (two they make and two they receive) and sends 30 texts uses about $2.40 of credit: $0.90 for 30 minutes of outgoing calls, $0.60 for 30 minutes of incoming calls and $0.90 for the texts. To estimate your own month, use the cost calculator.

Tips for Freelancers in Bangladesh

  • Use one number everywhere: your website, portfolio, LinkedIn, email signature and invoices. Clients then always have the right contact.
  • Keep platform verification on your own number. Verify Upwork, Fiverr and your bank with your Bangladeshi mobile, and use the US number for client calls and texts.
  • Share the number with your team. If several people answer for the same client, TINE Teams gives you shared numbers, roles and a shared contact list.
  • Use a headset. Laptop microphones pick up fans, traffic and echo.
  • Keep your personal number private. Clients see only your TINE number when you call or text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need ID, a US address, a Social Security number or a US SIM?

No. You sign up with your email and your Bangladeshi mobile number. TINE doesn't ask for ID documents, a US address, an SSN or a US SIM card.

Can I call Bangladeshi numbers with my US number?

No. A TINE US number only calls and texts US and Canadian numbers. Use your Bangladeshi SIM for calls at home.

Which card can I pay with?

A dual-currency (international) card enabled for online payments, from your bank, or a Freelancer Card linked to your ERQ account. Each payment must be under Bangladesh Bank's $300 limit for a single online transaction, and every TINE plan is.

Can I use my US number for WhatsApp?

No. WhatsApp doesn't accept virtual numbers, and it wouldn't register a TINE number when we tested it. Keep WhatsApp on your Bangladeshi number: US clients can still message you there.

Will US clients see my Bangladeshi number?

No. Calls and texts from TINE show your TINE number as the caller ID. Your Bangladeshi number is never shown.

Do I need to install an app?

No. TINE runs in any web browser on your laptop or phone. iPhone and Android apps are coming.

The Bottom Line

If you freelance or work remotely for US clients from Bangladesh, a US number makes you easy to reach. Google Voice, TextNow, Hushed, Talkatone and Burner don't let you sign up from Bangladesh. TINE does, from $5 a month, in your browser, with no ID.
